The Ecolife®'s label

The Ecolife® label identifies products that are exemplary in terms of sustainability: they use materials that are low-impact (recycled, organic) and certified (Bluesign®, Oeko-Tex®), manufactured in audited factories (compliant with working-conditions environmental standards) and transported by ship and/or train. All of these products are thus part of an eco-design and eco-responsible programme.

A Lafuma brainchild, the Ecolife® label is a set of product-development constraints geared to reducing environmental impact without impeding product performance and use. “In a nutshell, it’s a tool to support the product-development process,” explains Vanessa Lappassat, sustainable development lead.

“Ecolife® is very demanding because it’s based on the proportion of low-impact or Bluesign® materials in the product and not just the number of low-impact materials.” For instance, the FastTrack jacket uses a Bluesign®-approved shell fabric, a recycled lining and a corn-derived fill.

BLUESIGN

BLUESIGN
Bluesign® has developed a system that spans the whole textile supply chain.

Through optimised management of the input stream, the label guarantees that only “clean” components are used as resources – and used as efficiently as possible. The result? Clean, safe products that respect the environment. We preferentially use Bluesign®-approved fabrics to guarantee you a sustainable product that is harmless for health, manufactured with minimum impact on people and the environment, and engineered with approved materials and chemicals.

OEKO-TEX

OEKO TEX
Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is the first label to guarantee that textiles contain no harmful substances.

The world-leading health label for the textile industry, this international label is carried by fabrics which, at every stage of production, are free from chemicals harmful to health, skin and the environment. Stringent tests are conducted regularly, and the criteria are the same worldwide. For us, Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is a preferred criterion when selecting our materials, and helps us meet environmental challenges in the textile market.

PFC FREE
Lafuma has always strived to design the most sustainable products possible, in order to restrict resource use and environmental impact.

Durable water repellent (DWR) finishes increase resistance to the elements and to staining. They keep your technical garments dry for longer, and extend their life. Lafuma immediately implemented Greenpeace’s 2012 recommendations, eliminating long-chain (C8) perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) from the Winter 2014-2015 collections and replacing them with shorter chain (C6) finishes with an undetectable level of PFOA. In parallel, the brand did research into DWR finishes that use no PFCs at all, in order to eliminate even infinitesimal levels of PFOA. Our stated ambition is to eliminate, by 2020, all water repellent finishes containing short perfluorinated chains (C6/C4) and to thus be 100% PFC free. Since its Winter 2015-2016 collection, Lafuma has offered some products with a DWR finish stemming from this research.
