That’s why, back in 2008, we made a modest start not far from our HQ, clearing waste from a natural gem: the Mer de Glace. Every year since, Lafuma employees have been to clean the world’s most famous glacier.
In partnership with the French Alpine Club (CAF), Chamonix Town Council, leisure operator UCPA, ski-area operator Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, and environmental non-profit Mountain Riders, they stash roughly two tons of rubbish in their yellow bags, which are then gathered in one spot and heli-winched away. It’s an essential and painstaking task, which yields bits of cable, metal, leather, and more… The results speak for themselves: in the first eight years, more than 15 tons of waste was cleared.

We are working to expand the scope of the Outdoor Cleaning Program with our European subsidiaries and to include aquatic ecosystems, through a partnership with the WaterTrek foundation. WaterTrek focuses on rivers, which are particularly sensitive to pollution, by offering the chance to travel them on a stand-up paddle (SUP). Moving at water level promotes understanding, says founder Séverine Vasselin, “because it offers a fresh perspective on our surroundings. The SUP is an ideal tool for gauging the extent of environmental issues involving water. »
